Val Machin’s Orpheus! introduces the Orpheus myth which is to be performed in a more extended presentation in the September opera production, Underworld: Three Operatic Journeys to Hell and Back. This myth has served as an inspiration for many composers over the centuries. The Val Machin Opera Scenes will present a semi-staged public performance of Gluck’s Hades and the confrontation of Orpheus and the furies, followed by Offenbach’s rollicking gathering of the gods at Mount Olympus. These scenes have been specially chosen for this performance, not being included in the September production.
