Aunty Gail Mabo: On Reconciliation and Legacy 

Aunty Gail Mabo is a celebrated multidisciplinary artist and proud Meriam woman from the Peidram Clan of Mer Island in the Torres Strait. Her artistic expression is deeply rooted in her heritage and shaped by the rich tapestry of her childhood, culture, and connections to home, memory, and relationships. A versatile creative force, her repertoire spans dance, visual arts, and First Nations cultural knowledge, with her work having been showcased on both national and international stages, including the 2022 Biennale of Sydney and the Australian High Commission, Singapore.

Beyond her artistic endeavours, Aunty Gail is a teacher, director, curator, board member, cultural advisor, public speaker, and devoted mother to triplets.

As the daughter of two extraordinary figures, Eddie Koiki Mabo, whose name is synonymous with the historic Mabo decision, and Dr Bonita Mabo, a trailblazing advocate for social justice - Aunty Gail will reflect on her unique upbringing during a time of profound change and activism. She will share her journey as an artist, explore how her family's legacy of justice and cultural transformation continues to inspire her work, and highlight the enduring relevance of her father's vision for reconciliation in Australia today.
