Two greats of the Australian Art Song scene, Daniel de Borah and Andrew Goodwin bring us one of Schubert’s seminal works: Die schöne Müllerin (The Fair Mill-maid). Join these two Schubert aficionados as they take us on a coming-of-age journey through love found and lost.

Schubert's song cycle begins with the carefree motto ‘To wander in the miller’s joy’. And yet the story of the journeyman miller, unhappy in love, unfolds into a single-character drama: the hero is completely smitten with an ideal – and unreal – image of his unseen beloved. The struggle between feeling and reason drives him to the brink of madness.

Join the performers, masterclass student duos, visiting international guest artists Benjamin Appl and Sholto Kynoch, QASF Artistic Director Alexandra Flood and the Festival Team in the Conservatorium Foyer following the concert, to toast the opening of the Festival.
