In this ever-changing and topsy-turvy world, one things’ for certain: when it comes to Queensland’s own Pops Orchestra, you can never keep a legendary and much-loved musical institution away from the bright stage lights for long!

To deserved acclaim over 38 continuous years, the annual New Year’s Eve Concert has become synonymous with the Queensland Pops Orchestra, which has kept the great tradition alive since 1984. To the perennial delight of discerning Brisbane concert goers in search of a luscious evening of great music, it has become an enshrined indulgence not to be missed. Put simply, it’s a sure-fire option for those who crave the very best orchestral variety concert one is ever likely to find – and on the one night of the year that guarantees anticipation and celebration like no other.

Musical Director/Conductor Patrick Pickett CSM returns to the QPAC Concert Hall podium on December 31 with a host of fabulous artists to revel in what the Pops does best. New Year’s Eve is traditionally packed full of great orchestral music, gorgeous arias and popular songs. But NYE 2022 tweaks the lineup a little: in recognition of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, a touch of “The Best of British” will also feature. The fabulous ballroom dancers Rhett and Emma Salmon join us again and Scottish and Irish dancers add dazzle with all things Celtic, and no such concert could possibly do without a Scottish Piper to complete the mix.

To make this a truly memorable concert experience, the Pops will also pay loving tribute to the two Australian singing icons lost to us earlier this year: The Seekers’ lead singer, Judith Durham, and Olivia Newton-John. Many Australians hold a special place in their hearts for these two ‘First Ladies of Song’ and our special guest soprano Cassandra Seidemann will do them proud.

Joining the Pops for NYE 2022 will be renowned pianist Simon Tedeschi and bass baritone Eddie Muliaumaseali'i to complete what promises to be a night full of passion, colour, remembrance and exuberance… or to put it another way, a fabulous way to see in 2023!
