Pascoe is a long-time student and teacher of Wathaurong language and has worked extensively on the resurrection of the Yuin language understanding that culture is embedded in language.ABOUT BRUCE PASCOEBruce Pascoe is a Yuin, Bunurong and Tasmanian man born in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond. He is a member of the Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative of southern Victoria and has been the director of the Australian Studies Project for the Commonwealth Schools Commission. Pascoe has had a varied career as a teacher, farmer, fisherman, barman, fencing contractor, lecturer, Aboriginal language researcher, archaeological site worker and editor. Pascoe has published more than 20 adult and children’s titles, including Ocean, Convincing Ground: Learning to Fall in Love with Your Country; Fog a Dox; and Dark Emu: Black Seeds: Agriculture Or Accident?. Pascoe won the 2016 Book of the Year NSW Premier’s Literary Awards for Dark Emu and was co-winner of the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards Indigenous Writer’s Prize. Dark Emu was also shortlisted for the Queensland Literary Awards and the Victorian Premier’s Award for Indigenous Writing.
