Stephen Kovacevich is unquestionably one of the greatest pianists of the last half century. In his long and distinguished career as a concert pianist, he is particularly renowned for his interpretation of Schubert and Beethoven: ‘Listen to Stephen Kovacevich and the authentic voice of Beethoven leaps out at you’
(Gramophone).
For over four decades his award winning recordings have been regarded as benchmarks. In the historic Phillips Great Pianists of the 20th Century series he is accorded the rare privilege of two volumes, along with Michelangeli and Argerich.
One of his recordings was chosen by Gramophone as one of the greatest recordings in its almost 100-year history, alongside legendary pianists Rachmaninov, Richter, Glenn Gould and Schnabel.
His busy international concert schedule includes concerto performances and recitals at the Concertgebouw, Wigmore Hall and prestigious festivals including Verbier and Gergiev’s Mariinsky International Piano Festival in St Peterburg. He regularly performs in duo recitals with Martha Argerich.
