‘Beautifully atmospheric playing’ GRAMOPHONE
BACH French Suite No 5 in G major, BWV 816 SCHUMANN Carnaval, Op 9 CHOPIN Ballade No 2 in F major, Op 38 LISZT Sonata in B minor, S. 178
Internationally acclaimed Grammy-nominated Korean pianist Joyce Yang has been hailed by critics for her superb artistry and the sheer beauty of her playing: ‘…dazzling virtuosity, scintillating finger work, poetic sensitivity and lyricism’. Joyce Yang moved to New York aged eleven and began studying in Juilliard’s pre-college division with Yoheved Kaplinsky. The following year she performed Prokofiev’s Third Piano Concerto with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
In 2005 Yang won the silver medal at the Van Cliburn competition and made her debut with the New York Philharmonic and Lorin Maazel in 2006. She is one of the most distinguished pianists of her generation, in constant demand with many of the world’s top orchestras and conductors. Her recitals are revered; one rarely hears the piano played so lovingly and expressively. She creates a world of colour with her ‘vivid and beautiful playing’. New York Times
