MOZART Rondo in D major, K. 485 BRAHMS Rhapsody in G minor, Op 79 No 2 and Intermezzi Nos 2 & 3, Op 117 LISZT Paganini étude No 6 in A minor S141 SAINT-SAENS Danse macabre (arr. Liszt/Horowitz) MUSSORGSKY Pictures at an Exhibition
The sensational Ukrainian pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk is hailed by critics worldwide for his ‘blow-your-socks-off virtuosity’ and has been called ‘another Horowitz’. His thrilling pianism, dazzling fingerwork and command of instrumental colour seems a throwback to the Golden Age pianists. He has won the Gold Medal at many of the world’s top international piano competitions, including the prestigious Horowitz and Rubinstein competitions.
Gavrylyuk’s busy concert schedule sees him playing with the world’s top orchestras and conductors and performing recitals in all the major concert halls worldwide. His beautifully crafted concert program begins with one of Mozart’s most popular works followed by glorious Brahms, Liszt’s virtuosic Paganini étude and Saint-Saëns’s tour de force, Dance macabre. The concert ends on a titanic note with Mussorgsky’s Pictures, symphonic in its range of dynamics, deeply Russian in feeling and marvellously evocative.
Alexander Gavrylyuk’s concert is presented in partnership with Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Alexander Gavrylyuk appears courtesy of Symphony Services Australia.
