Overview

Virtuoso Australian violinist Kristian Winther joins Ensemble Q for the first time in an extraordinary program of new and old masterpieces. Mozart's C minor piano concerto, is often regarded as the composer's greatest gift to the genre. The heart melting opening theme in c minor sets the stage for a depth of expression rare, even in the hands of this great master. Music from the classical period had perhaps never before reached these heights of human emotion. Australian composer Andrew Batt-Rawden's amazing essays in the string quartet repertoire create brilliant and evocative musical statements in miniature. (the titles refer the age of the composer on completion) The raw energy and beauty that he packs into his brief utterances is extraordinary. This will be the premiere performance of ""29"". And concluding this dramatic and colourful concert is Brahms rarely heard and scintillating String Quintet no 2 in G major. Brahms originally intended this work to be his last composition and much of the work was conceived as the basis of his fifth symphony.
