Overview

Concert two takes players and audience on a voyage through some of the most inspiring and moving chamber music ever written. Concertmaster of the SSO, Andrew Haveron, leads Ensemble Q members and a stunning line up of guest artists to bring you the full version of Stravinsky's 1917 classic Soldier's Tale, based on a Russian folk tale that relates the parable of a soldier who trades his fiddle to the devil in return for unlimited economic gain. Entertainingly delivered by three of Brisbane’s finest actor/singers, Jason Barry Smith, Leisa Rayven and Tom Oliver.

Balancing the Stravinsky is arguably the greatest work in the chamber music repertoire. Brahms evergreen Clarinet Quintet, written for the inspirational clarinetist Richard Muhlfield, is a work full of pathos, melancholy and extraordinary long melodic lines of beauty and passion.

STRAVINSKY - L'histoire du soldat (A Soldier's Tale)
Featuring Jason Barry Smith (narrator)
Leisa Rayven (Devil)
Tom Oliver (Soldier)
BRAHMS - Clarinet Quintet in B minor, Opus 115
