OPERA QUEENSLAND AND QUEENSLAND THEATRE UNITE TO EXPLORE AN EPIC TALE! The Dido and Aeneas legend is drama of epic proportion – evil plots, awakening love, fierce loyalty, broken promises and heart-rending tragedy. Under the guidance of award-winning directors from Opera Queensland and Queensland Theatre, we’re thrilled to offer this unique 13-week program exploring the dramatic themes and glorious music of Henry Purcell’s, Dido & Aeneas. This unprecedented youth workshop will give young artists aged 13 – 17, the opportunity to hone their performances skills, creativity and confidence in an inspiring, supportive environment. Participants will work together with a specially selected cohort from Queensland Theatre’s renowned Youth Ensemble Program in a vibrant exchange of ideas and talents. Over the course of the program, young artists will work with professional directors and guest tutors to develop a new adaptation of Dido & Aeneas pairing Purcell’s sublime music with text by Shakespeare’s controversial contemporary, Elizabethan writer Christopher Marlowe. The piece will combine choral, physical theatre and spoken elements which, on 18 October, will be performed on the striking set of Don Giovanni on the Playhouse stage at QPAC. Limited places are available.
