Overview

In recent times floods have led to major devastation and personal tragedy in Queensland and around the world. In December 2010 to January 2011, three quarters of Queensland was declared a disaster zone, thousands lost their homes, and 35 lives were lost. And nature will undoubtedly continue to surprise us. So what can we learn from these recent events, and how can we better prepare for floods into the future?

Join the Queensland Chief Scientist, Dr Geoff Garrett, AO, and leading experts from the recent report Understanding Floods: Questions and Answers, climatologist Professor Roger Stone, civil engineer Tony McAlister, and water resources engineer Toby McGrath as they discuss what causes floods, how we can better manage and plan for floods, and what we can expect in the future.
