Magnus Lindberg, sometimes dubbed the bad boy of contemporary music, composed his Violin Concerto in 2006 and it has made rapid inroads into the repertoire of several leading violinists. Miraculously, Lindberg creates shimmering sonorities with the Mozart-sized orchestra and a rhapsodic solo role for the violinist. Kats-Chernin's two pieces are beautiful explorations of her quirky talent.
