First Australian Concert
An orchestra within an orchestra—the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic have charmed worldwide audiences since their first concert in 1972. Now in their second generation, these uniquely gifted musicians have gained international prominence and a following of enthusiasts of all musical genres. Their repertoire range is vast: from Gabriel Fauré, Ennio Morricone, Edith Piaf and Astor Piazzolla.
Whether they are playing the classics, jazz, tango or avant-garde, listeners are invariably fascinated by the wide range of unique and intoxicating timbres that these twelve cellos can produce. The 12 Cellist’s mixture of seriousness and humour, of depth and lightness, appeals to audiences of all ages. Among the contemporary composers who have written works exclusively for the “12” are Boris Blacher, Jean Francaix, and Tan Dun.
This November’s concert represent the 12 Cellists’ first ever performances in Australia. You won’t want to miss out on this once in a lifetime offering of music and magic.
